I once had a preacher that was like a father to me.
He was kind, friendly, and a bit goofy too. But his
Preaching was always strong and true--it made you think
Of how to live for God, and what He wanted you to do.
The church was small and eventually couldn't pay him enough
To care for his family. He had to move somewhere else. While
He was here, he counseled me on problems with my father, and he'd
Take me to Bible Study for my age group in his old VW Beetle.
He would always pitch in and lend a hand, no matter what. His
Daughter's were young when he was our preacher. They are now married
And are grandparents themselves. We are still in contact.
He was known to have a fondness for gooseberry pie. When there was
A church dinner, Mom made 3 gooseberry pies. Two made it to the dessert
Table, and 1 he would hide. When I practiced driving in the empty parking lot,
He would hide his old Beetle behind a tiny tree for safety. He and his wonderful
Wife have been married over 60 years. He's not in the best of health, but still full
Of wisecracks, and put's God first in his life. Mom and I love the whole family.
God Bless You All.
"Janet"
