It's a cold, windy winter's day. Light snow
Is falling. The weather report says it will
Start getting thicker, throughout the day.
And overnight. The wind will be stronger still.
Some people enjoy weather like this--they ski,
Snow board, slide down hill on sleds. Others
Think they're crazy, but they don't care---
They're having fun, so they're not bothered.
Those who don't care for those sports stay
Inside and make coffee, hot cider, hot chocolate
With marshmallows and whipped cream. They also
Start baking snacks to die for.
There's gingerbread, cinnamon buns, all different
Kinds of cakes, pies, and cookies, and of course--
Homemade candy. The outdoor people warm in front
Of the fire, snacks in hand.
Everyone seem to like the first snowfall. It
Makes everything beautiful. But when they have
To clear their cars and go to work on slick streets
And avoid getting in ruts--not so much.
Snow is different to all people.
Make sure you check on elderly family
Members and neighbors to make sure they're
All right. And take them some goodies.
