MY PETS ARE MY FAMILY

My pets aren't just my companions--
Heck, they're my family.  They guard
Me, worry about me when I'm sad,
And wait for me at the door.

They show they love me in many
Different ways--they love to cuddle
Next to me, or fall asleep in my lap.  They
Help me watch Mom--to keep her out of trouble.

I'll never understand, as long as I'm alive,
How people can abandon their pets, starve,
And abuse them, even kill them--when all
They got was love and loyalty, no harm.

I've never been able to watch a movie
Where an animal, especially a dog, dies.
I saw one once when I was younger,
And it made me cry and cry.

My father used to say I cared more
About the animals dying than
The people.  Maybe that's true. 
Dogs don't lie, and are loyal to the end.

You can laugh if you want--
I don't care.  Everyone needs to
Feel love.  If you hurt an animal in
My presence, unless it's attacking--you'll hurt too.
