LET'S GET THIS WORKED OUT

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me."

Generations of kids were taught this
When complaining someone was being
Mean and calling them names.  It may have
Been true long ago--today it's called bullying.

Bullies have been around forever, but their
Methods and words have become more
Cruel and devastating to their victims.  Worse
Yet, some parents do it behind closed doors.

Having to deal with it day to day
Can make someone withdrawn
And depressed.  They think they're
Worthless, hopes and dreams gone.

It's even worse when the person
Causing the depression and pain
Is a parent--who you're supposed to look
Up to and make you feel safe in your domain.

Bullies and their victims come in all skin
Colors and ethnicities, no one is unscathed.
Because someone seems different, bullies feel
They're easy targets to to disgrace.

This can lead to violence where innocents
Are injured or killed.  Some bullies are
Civilians--even kids.  Some are Law Enforcement.
ALL leave scars.

So many want to come together and work
Things out.  We can't erase our history,
But we can start now to make a new, integrated,
Peaceful history for the future--not deadly.

No one wants to leave a violent and deadly legacy
For future generations.  We need to make sure ALL
Peoples journey's are taught in history.  Not leave them out.
A look at how history was made--a version that's truthful.

And hopefully--by stopping threats and bullying
Of others, we can help those in need--
And lower the number of people who feel they
Have to kill themselves--we have to take the lead.
