I'LL NEVER BE A MOM

I'll never be called Mommy--
That's not in God's plan for me.
But that's okay--I have Him, my
Books, and of course my fur babies.

I don't envy my friends who are
Mothers.  I'm happy for them,
And it's amazing to see how fast
Their kid's grow.  Each one a gem.

My nieces and nephews are grown up
And have kids of their own.
They remember Mom is their Grandma,
And that I'm their crazy Aunt from long ago.

What I am is a caregiver--God
Gives me the strength.  I helped Mom
Care for Grandma and Dad, and now
It's her turn--we both need to be calm.

She's used to doing things that she
Can't anymore, and it bothers her
To ask for help--even though she
Knows that's what I'm here for.

I'll never be a mother--
But I've been a daughter,
Caregiver, and companion.
And oh yes:  A chauffer.
