A small child sits in a corner with tears
Running down their face. Once again,
Their parents are fighting--and the
Child is terrified what will happen.
Will one harm or kill the other?
Or take it out on them? They
Don't feel safe and have no one to
Trust or go to--is this their last day?
This isn't the first time it's happened, and
Probably not the last. They're so busy
Fighting, they neglect the child unless
To beat them. They're sad and stomachs empty.
Sometimes neighbors hear and call
The Police. Others don't want to get
Involved and ignore it. After so long,
The child is found dead.
Everyone tries to blame each other,
When in the end the truth is this:
Our whole society failed to protect
One of their smallest citizens.
