Memories of the morning
You were born--at the hospital
All night--you took your sweet
Time showing up--so tiny, now so tall.
Coming to my folks house, we
Had a sack of toys and puzzles that
We collected just for you. My Mom
Was your first babysitter: verified fact.
You found the cupboard where we
Kept the vanilla wafers or
Graham crackers, and always helped yourself.
We explained to your Dad that's what they were for.
Once when you and your Mom came over--
You were in the kitchen with my Mom, mesmerized
Watching her make noodles. We came in and
You told us to leave--we weren't needed.
And who can forget your favorite musical:
"The Sound Of Music". You would have your
Blanket on the floor, and sing and dance to
All the movies songs--so cute. Then nap on the floor.
Now you're a grownup, graduated college,
Have a good job and your own home.
So much time has passed--we were there,
But can't believe it's gone.
