A MOTHER'S DAY GIFT FOR A MILITARY MOM

Two women wait in line at
The cashier of a department
Store.  One makes idle conversation.
"I can't wait for Mother's Day--
My child loves me and is extravagant."

"I can't imagine what I'll get
This year.  It's always wrapped
Beautifully and it's something
My child knows I'll cherish
Whatever it is--I love that"

The other woman smiled and
Said "I too am getting a
Special Mother's Day gift
From my child.  It's something
I'll love and cherish always."

The other woman says "Really?
Do you have any ideas what
Your gift might be?"  "Yes, and
I know it's coming from overseas
And it had great cost."

The other woman looked puzzled,
So she continued:  "you see, my gift
Is my child coming home from war.
They'll be wrapped beautifully in
The flag that they fought and died for."

"I'm here to find a black dress to
Wear to meet my child's coffin
At Dover, Delaware.  It's a gift
I will always cherish, and the
Cost was a very great one."

The other woman fell quiet
And felt ashamed.  No more
Bragging about what expensive
Gift she'd get for Mother's Day.
This woman's gift was worth far more.
