Parents usually have a hard time
Deciding when to have "the talk"
With their kids.  They know they
Should do it, but they balk.

There is another talk about
Other facts of life that seems
Not to have been covered--not
At all.  Never entered their dreams.

This is the age of technology.
Parents are beginning to realize
They have to safeguard their kids
From predators and bullies lies.

The internet can be useful,
But some people cause harm.
They spread lies and rumors,
And call in false alarms.

They think they're being
Smart or they're trying to
One-up their friends.  They don't
Think or don't care what they do.

The talk about this
Fact of life is for
Teaching them to take
Responsibility, not ignore.

They need to realize that everything
They do has consequences, and
Sometimes what they think is fun or cool,
Can cause trouble and come to a bad end.

People can have their identities stolen,
Finances hacked, be scammed or
Defrauded, and worst of all--they
Can cause someone's death--what for?

These facts of life are as important
As the others.  Teach kids that there
Are limits and boundaries, and over
Stepping them causes great burdens to bear.
