GRASS FIRES ON THE PRAIRIE

Smoke so thick it's hard
To breathe, roads closed due
To no visibility and flames, grass
Fires on the prairie, a horrifying view.

High winds keep changing direction, fire
Fighters trying to contain the blaze.
People being evacuated for safety--
No rest for the weary-the air a haze.

All around the nation, people
Are keeping us in prayer,  Red Cross
And Salvation Army offering shelter
And care--people feeling immense loss.

Some lose their homes, pets,
And irreplaceable keepsakes.
But they all agree just surviving
Is great--human lives can't be replaced.

We're strong, resilient people--once
The fires are out and the shock
Has worn off, we rise from the
Ashes, Phoenix-like and take stock.

We will rebuild--this is our
Home, and we know that
God is with us and we know
He always has our backs.
