In times long past,
A person's word was their bond.
Generations of families lived together,
Working and playing together as one.
People were basically honest, but
There were crooks then too.
Everyone looked out for one another--
Said "excuse me", and "Please and Thank You".
Children were taught manners--
Siblings fought with, and for
Each other. School was a place to learn,
Homework was always a chore.
You could play games outside all day--
Coming home for chores and supper at dusk.
There were no tech gadgets to play with,
And you got spanked if you cussed.
The family went to church on Sundays,
There were Revivals and Vacation Bible School.
Government did what is was supposed to--
And you didn't have to sell a kidney for fuel.
To some, these are cherished memories
Of when they were young.
To kids nowadays. they think it's a
Make believe story their parents have spun.
