Sharp stabs of pain,
Like a million jackhammers pounding.
Stabs of pain become steady--
The pain level is mounting.
Your head feels like it wants to implode
Into billions of tiny pieces of pain.
You can't tolerate light, scents,
And the slightest sound can drive you insane.
Some have auras just before,
Some have no warning at all.
Add vertigo and nausea--
You just want to curl up in a ball.
Lay in a dark room--no light at all.
Tell everyone not to bother you.
The drugs for migraines are expensive,
No money or insurance, what to do?
It's a neurological disease,
It manifests in different ways.
Some go blind during an attack--
Some have no pain, just vision waves.
We get laughed at
And joked about--
We're even called liars.
Bosses don't believe us and throw us out.
Some say they have "bad headaches" too,
But they're nothing like migraines.
If bosses and jokesters could feel what we do,
They wouldn't treat us with disdain.
