Lord, please help me understand
Why some people don't care or see
That animals are your creation--
Just the same as we.
I can't understand when all they do
Is give unconditional love.
Some people beat them, pour acid on them,
Or set them on fire. It must make you weep in Heaven above.
They're abandoned on roadsides,
Left to freeze in the cold--
Because they're not wanted,
Or they've gotten too old.
Please watch over all animals as I
Know you do each day, and somehow find
Their abusers--and make them pay. We need stronger
Sentences than a slap on the wrist or a fine.
I don't understand, Lord
Why people do cruel, horrible things--
To children and animals that are
Innocent and have done nothing.
