Remember Your Roots

Don't forget where you came from,
Never try to be something you're not.
Where you come from may not be wonderful--
But those are the roots you've got.

Always keep your dignity and integrity,
Don't sink to someone elses' level.
Remember hard learned lessons, love God,
And don't sell your soul to the devil.

Your roots are how you started,
Your choices are how you grow.
Things instilled in you while young
Can make you someone people want to know.

You can't change your history,
So don't feel ashamed.
Work on your present and future--
Don't keep trying to assign blame.

God gave you the roots He felt you needed
To be the person you need to be--
To overcome hardships, live life,
And be a decent human being.
