Wildfires

Beautiful trees and landscapes,
Sometimes entire small towns--
Are gone in an instant by a wildfire.
People watch in horror as their lives burn down.

Some are started by lightening
Striking a tall tree.
A lot are caused by campfires not quite out,
And several are arson by a crazy SOB.

Inevitably after a wildfire,
Then it decides to rain.
And with nothing to hold the top soil,
Mudslides begin again.

All you can do about Mother Nature
Is make sure no brush is close to your home.
Campers should be extra careful,
And arsonists should be put in a cell alone.

But first they need to tell the families
Why they felt the need to start a fire--
That killed their loved ones,
And listen to their ire.

When fire was invented, it was to
Keep us warm and cook the food we caught.
To be used as a weapon of destruction--
Should never have been given a thought.
