Wanted: A Walton Type Family

It was only a TV show,
But based on reality.
A large family that cared for each other--
And didn't care who could see.

They squabbled like families do,
But always had each others backs.
And when they did something,
Took responsibility for their acts.

Three generations
In one big house.
They respected each others opinions---
Their love for nature could not be doused.

These days, some families are like that--
But sadly, a lot are estranged.
Once or twice a decade they meet,
And can't believe how each has changed.

When someone dies, families
Should come together,
Not mooch off other relatives--
But remember the thread of love that tethers.

In the TV show when the children left
To follow each of their dreams,
The love of family brought them home
At times-for in their hearts a home and family light beams.

If some families could only start over,
And not be too stubborn and proud--
They could have that TV type family,
And give thanks in prayer with all heads bowed.
