Have you ever seen Depression glass,
Or been to an antique show or mall?
Beautiful items made a long time ago--
Some remember from when they were small.
Have you ever used a wringer washer,
Being careful not to catch your arm?
Did you hang clothes outside on a line
When the days were sunny and warm?
Depression glass came in pretty colors,
And all different designs.
Carnival glass was beautiful too--showing all the colors.
That neither are in stores now is a sign of the times.
Cooking on a cook stove that you put
Wood in the burners to keep going.
Cast iron cookware was the best, and their wood
Stoves kept you warm when it was snowing.
Wooden toys made by hand,
Furniture was too.
Some made more for sturdiness--
Than to add beauty to a room.
Beautiful painted dishes,
With a coffee pot to match--
Used for company or Sunday dinners,
If moving were very carefully packed.
Antiques are beautiful,
And usually priced out of reach.
But they tell us about our ancestors,
If you're willing to learn--they're willing to teach.
