There are all levels of trust,
Sort of like different parts
Of a main theme.
Most of these levels involve your heart.
Friends have a trust
That they are there for each other,
Siblings have a trust--even though
Most sisters fight with their brothers.
The trust between
A man and wife,
Are there in the vows
They take for life.
A child trusts that
Their parents won't abuse
Or abandon them--they think
It's their fault and it scares and confuses them.
Any animal that's a pet
Trusts their owner to take good care
Of them not kill or maim them,
And leave them damaged for someone else to repair.
Soldiers at war trust
That their buddies have their back.
The paratrooper trusts that
His parachute is correctly packed.
We trust God to help us
Every single day--
That trust will never be broken,
Even if things don't go your way.
Most of the levels of trust
I've mentioned take years
To grow and earn--but can be destroyed
In a minute by betrayal that sears.
Be careful what you say and do--
Sometimes lives depend upon it.
Value the trust placed in you,
It's something not everyone gets.
