Our Native Americans

Native American members
Of each and every tribe--
Carry their heritage
With dignity and pride.

They were made to leave
Their homelands by the Army
And settlers--just so they could have the land.
History tells of many Indian war parties.

"The Trail Of A Thousand Tears"
Included many different tribes:
Cherokee, Chickasaw, Seminole, Creek and Choctaw.
On that 1,000 mile march, 5,000-6,000 Choctaw died.

They were marched from their
Homelands in the southeast United States
To reservations in Oklahoma
To live out the rest of their days.

Several chiefs you've heard of:
Geronimo, Chief Joseph, Cochise
Tecumseh, Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull.
They thought the white men were cheats.

They had a right to live
In their homelands,
But their rights were not considered--
Treaties made were broken:  and the flames of hatred fanned.

The last major battle
Between the Indians and the Army
Took place in a spot you may have heard of--
It's name is Wounded Knee.

You'd think we'd learned our lesson,
But after this came the Holocaust--
And these days Vladimir Putin
Invades countries just to prove he is boss.
