Your Dog

You've had them
Since they were a pup.
Or adopted from a shelter--
Because their owner just gave up.

They come in all sizes,
Some friendly, some shy.
Their love is so strong,
For you they'd lay down and die.

Unconditional love and friendship
Is what they give to you,
Trust and loyalty
Are in the package too.

They are close beside you
When you've suffered a loss--
They love to play catch,
Or fetch a stick that you toss.

They're not just pets,
They become family--
You wouldn't have it any other way.
How people could abuse them is beyond me.
