One Nation Under God

Our country was founded
On belief and freedom of religion.
Persecuted believers
Came here in legion.

They left their homes
Because of tyranny--
And built this nation
From "sea to shining sea".

They never forgot to thank God
For blessings large and small,
To this day you'll see Bible verses
Carved in our government's halls.

So why be angry now
If someone wants to pray,
In schools or government buildings?
Freedom of speech allows that, by the way.

It also allows people NOT to--
If that is what they choose.
NO ONE has the right
To discriminate and abuse.

Years ago we Pledged Allegiance
And allowed prayer in schools,
Instead of memorizing sports statistics--
We learned and lived by God's 10 rules.

Everyone has the right,
To choose what NOT to do--
But people also have the right
To say "God Bless You".

"ONE NATION UNDER GOD"--
We all stand straight and tall.
If we ever lose that,
It will be our downfall.
