USED TO BE'S

They used to be children's parents, they used to be someone's husband or wife.

Now their spouse has passed on, and the children have their own lives.

The grandkids may call or send a note, we never learned to text or face time.

Our children call or make short visits, so busy they seem to just say hello and then goodbye.

We don't want to be a burden, and give them added stress--

We just want some time to be with them before our time has passed.

The time and attention and care we gave them as they grew--

Is it too much to ask to talk, get a hug, or even an "I love you?"

The times together as a family are memories that bring me joy.

Now, when you see me--you seem to be annoyed.

We can't help getting old and frail, it happens to everyone sooner or later.

We just want to be reassured that we still matter.

Just remember we'll love you until our dying day, and even beyond.

We'll be family always, love Dad and Mom.
