People in this country--even around the world, can be affected by depression. You need to both listen AND hear what the depressed person is saying. In their own way, they are crying out for help. It can affect anyone at any age. Years of verbal and emotional abuse, feeling an outcast at school, being body shamed, or bullied. Not just kids, adults feel it too. They won't get that perfect body image everyone has. They're not popular, theyr'e mostly loners.
They have familes to support and they lost their jobs, and can't find work, and the bills are piling up and you may be evicted. There are so many layers and depths to deression. It can be a chemical reaction in the brain. Not enough of a certain chemical can leave an imbalace that can make you depressed. Taking illegal drugs does not help, and can make things worse.
Elderly people can get severely depressed too. Thinking their lives are almost over, and that no one cares or comes to see them. They feel scared and all alone. No one should be made to feel that way, EVER. Depression is not a phase someone goes through and will just snap out of. Some feel that normal living is too much effort and they simply give up and don't care anymore.
They don't need anyone's anger or ridicule or given some "space". They need to know they have support and backup from family and friends. They need therapy, sometimes intense, and possibly prescription meds to help them.
It can be time consuming and expensive, but isn't saving someone's life worth it?
