I think of you often, warm cherished
Memories of things we used to do.
Surprising Mom with new home made
Curtains for the family room
I remember your sister said you were too old
To wear red. And the joy and delight
On your face when Mom made you a red dress with white
Trim on the neck. You looked beautiful. Your sister wasn't right.
Making time to spend with me. I enjoyed that a lot.
Family get togethers when we came for the holidays,
Mom's cousins and I and their kids would get reacquainted--
And we'd go out and run and play.
When you came to our house, sometimes
Dad's family would visit too. We'd have big
Family potluck dinners--good food no one could refuse.
We all cooked together, even us kids.
You were my second mother, and I love you so.
When you got sick, I helped Mom care for you until we
Couldn't any longer. When you could no longer attend church--I'd
Pick you up at the home and take you to our house for a change of scenery.
I was devastated when you passed away, but you were suffering
Alzheimer's no more. It's been many years, but I still mourn.
You were a big part of my life from the time I was born. I take care
of Mom now--please keep us in your prayers.
