My humans have been running around
Like crazy people for weeks and weeks.
Making goodies in the kitchen, but
They're not for me to eat.
Then my human Mom gets up way early
To put a big bare bird in the oven and goes
Back to bed. It's in there all day--the aroma
Is wonderful--it tickles my nose.
I stand in the kitchen, off to one side.
I'd gladly help them if they'd let me.
Oh well, if I'm good and don't bother
Them, they may give me a good treat.
The day arrives, lots of humans show up.
Some I know, some I don't. They pet me
As they come in and then set down and talk.
Only getting up to come to the table to eat.
I've learned from past experience
What area of the table to be under
To catch food the humans might happen to
Drop. We'll go through this again in December.
December sometimes means having ham.
There are boxes under a tree that's all
Decorated, with lights twinkling. I have to
Leave the the tree and boxes alone. Rotten call.
However, later in the day--they finally decide
To unwrap those boxes under that
Glittery tree. That means lots of paper and
Bows for me to play with. I like that.
After everyone's gone and the dining
Table is cleared and kitchen clean, my
Humans and I can relax and recharge.
I'm very blessed these humans are mine.
