HAVE WE LEARNED ANYTHING?

The pandemic we're in now is not good.
But it has taught us many lessons.
It's taught us to slow down and notice what's
Really going on--some leaving bad impressions.

We see that people help others and
Check to make sure they're okay.
We see versions of racial profiling
That make black people feel like hunted prey.

We see people that are supposed to protect
ALL of us misuse their authority--
Just so they can feel powerful and use
Deadly force and kill minorities.

We've found spending time with
Family is a good thing--bringing
Us closer together and to treat our elders
Better, learn from them by listening.

Items we may take for granted--
Others may have never seen or owned.
It's okay to protest peacefully
About something you know is wrong.

But people who incite violence
And looting, are no better than
Those who committed the original
Wrong against which we stand.

No matter the race--there are good and
Bad people--that's a fact of life.  Those
Who misuse their badges to abuse and kill minorities
Should face consequences for what they chose.

No one likes to be disrespected, especially
If you don't know them--only their skin color.
No one should be boxed in by citizens and killed--
Because they "thought he was a burglar".

Somehow, some way, with God's help--
And everyone having open minds and hearts,
And lose all old grudges and/or preconceived
Notions, truly, United We'll Stand.

Countries around the world can see
How we can come together as one--
And possibly follow our example to end
Racism and prejudice will finally be done.

RIP to all who were murdered because others
thought you were the "wrong color."
