WHY DO WE DO THIS?

Why are we humans so cruel to
Each other?  Just because we
Don't always agree, is no reason to
Distance ourselves from friends and family.

Whether we're rich or poor--we all
Find out that our lives can be over
In an instant.  Leaving some wishing they
Had worked to make amends harder.

Not everyone feels the same way
About how to live their lives, or
What paths they want to take to their
Future.  They have rights you can't ignore.

As long as what someone does isn't illegal
Or immoral, they still value support from
Family and friends.  No matter what outsiders
Think, you can disagree and still stand behind them.

Then there are some people, like doctors
Who feel because they can treat those
Who are sick--they can treat others, even
Patients, like peasants--and it shows.

To be good at helping people--you
Need to keep an open mind and heart.
Have kindness and empathy.  I think
Medical school doesn't teach that part.

People who are not really that way,
Are ahead of the game.  People remember
And respect those who know we are
All humans--none better than others.

You get the feeling some enter certain
Professions for the perks and prestige.
Helping other people is not really their thing.
They aren't able to make people comfy and at ease.

The first part of the Hippocratic Oath
Says "first do no harm".  When someone
Doesn't complete a procedure, or do it correctly
And check on the patient, it causes complications.

The Lord said "Do unto others as you would
Have them do unto you".  Show kindness
And respect to others and you'll get the same
In return.  And that's harmless.
