Shades of blue, green, red, yellow, orange,
Purple, black and a myriad of other colors
On a blank canvas. Either in wide brush strokes
Or with no rhyme or reason--just splattered.
Some say it's modern art or abstract.
And each person gets a different message
Looking at it. They may see the artist's talent.
Or a reflection of the worlds' torment displayed.
Most often, people simply see a mess
On a piece of canvas at an art exhibit,
And gasp when they see the price.
They think that it's not realistic.
What's even worse--if the artist passes
Away, that piece of art will go way up
In price. Sometimes it's not worth what
Was paid and the owner is stuck with blobs.
Most people would rather see artworks
That actually look like something.
Perhaps that sparks memories or emotions
Of when they felt life was worth living.
Paintings of nature, scenic landscapes,
Animals, or farms with windmills by
The old barn. Or a rainy day seen through
A window, or children playing nearby.
I'm no art expert, and don't claim to be.
I just know when I like something that's not crap.
And I can enjoy looking at it whenever I want
Without having a migraine attack.
