PETS HAVE FEELINGS

Some people laugh or are surprised
To find that pets have feelings too.
Sometimes they have more feelings
Than some people do.

They have the maternal instinct to
Care for their family and to protect
Them from harm.  A stray dog who just
Had puppies, cared for an abandoned infant.

If people treat them kindly and with
Respect, the pet will respond
The same way.  They have unconditional love.
Only death or human desertion breaks that bond.

You can see fear and sadness in their eyes.
When someone they loved dies,
They grieve in their own way.  Some won't
Eat, others are depressed--it takes time.

They are family members-exactly
Like human members.  They can tell
When you're upset and there are some
That can tell someone's ill by the smell.

If your pet doesn't care for someone--
They're usually right, so don't trust them.
If that person did something wrong, a pet
Can recognize the voice and smell to  identify them.

Sometimes, if they don't get their
Way, they will go and sit and pout.
Oh yes, pets definitely have feelings.
Of that there is no doubt.
