CANCER: THE BIG C

Sadly, the word cancer has been a part
Of our everyday lives for far too many years.
We all know and love someone who is fighting
It, just diagnosed, or coming to life's end.  It's not fair.

One disease that can have several different causes,
Several different forms, can occur anywhere, and
Sometimes spreads from it's original site to others
All over the body.  No one is immune, it's hard to understand.

Sometimes, through breakthroughs in science and by
The grace of God--someone can be cured or their disease
Sent into remission.  The still have to be checked all the
Time, because it may come back--it's an angry beast.

The treatments for it can be as grueling and disabling
As the disease itself.  However, oncologists now say
That treatment has advanced enough sometimes you
Only need a pill.  If you have family history, don't delay.

It has no age or race discrimination--newborns
Can get it as well as the elderly.  It is so
Heartbreaking to see babies, or anyone for that matter--
Hooked up to tubes carrying medicine, and you just don't know.

Someday, if we're lucky, and hopefully during
My lifetime, we'll find a cure for ALL TYPES
Of cancer--maybe even a vaccine to prevent it.
And don't charge exorbitant amounts, just save lives.
