DEPRESSION: PLENTY TO GO AROUND

There are times of sadness in life
That come and they go.
Depression however, takes over
Your mind and body as a whole.

You lose interest in things you
Used to love, you're tired and
Listless, things are too much effort.
You cry easily and withdraw, no one understands.

You can't pinpoint one particular
Thing that set it off, it just hits
All at once like a tsunami and you're enveloped
With it, all you want is peace and to sit.

Each episode lasts for a different
Length of time.  Sometimes medicine
Helps, sometimes therapy, sometimes both.  If
Someone could cure depression, they'd have a gold mine.

It's not particular at what age it hits.
Adolescent, teen, young adult, elderly.
You're already embarrassed to have it--
Worried people will think you're crazy.

Being abused verbally and emotionally
Seems to make things worse,  You're
Told you don't matter, just taking up space
Here on earth.  Being humiliated triggers it for sure.

One parent is the abuser, the other is old
School--you don't discuss things like this
In public.  What would friends and neighbors think?
You say nothing, but it eats you alive.

These are the choices some of us have:  Say
Nothing so you're not a "victim" or "whiner".
Try to find someone to talk to who understands, act
Like nothing is wrong, feel like a hypocrite and liar.

I have God to talk to in times like these.
I talk with Him daily and He reads the pain
In my heart, mind, and soul.  He says "Rest
My child--I'll take away your pain."

All abuse leaves scars that cut deep.
It can cause emotional and behavioral
Problems, especially when it's a secret you
Have to keep.  God loves you and you're valuable.
