Just about anywhere in the country,
You'll see old, weathered barns.
Not in the big cities of course--
But in rural areas, on farms.
Some still standing tall and
Proud--some leaning or missing
Pieces. Time takes it's toll. If they
Could talk, what a history lesson.
Back East there are barns,
And equally interesting--covered
Bridges. Some have been repaired,
Others still old and weathered.
My Mom likes seeing old barns--
It reminds her of the farm where
She grew up. I like covered bridges--
We saw some in Vermont one year.
There's just something in the way both
These structures look--spanning centuries,
Bringing hints of Colonial times--
Everyone traveling by horse and buggies.
They're plain, ordinary structures,
But they blend in with the landscape--
Not ruin it or block it out totally. Hard
Workers built them--that's why they remain.
