A CHILD MAY LEAD THEM

It is horrifying what is happening
In our country and around the world.
Words of hate and graffiti on places,
Businesses vandalized, bricks hurled.

People march in peaceful protest against the bad
Things going on.  People of opposing views
Protest at the same time--it's no longer peaceful,
It's a riot, hatred and anger lit the fuse.

Our congress comes together to bemoan
Terrorist attacks, but when it comes
To mass shootings in different places--
The political blame game is on.

They're so hooked by lobbyists and
Campaign contributors that instead
Of voting their conscience for our country--
They stall, make excuses so as not to offend.

Malala Yousafazi from Pakistan risked
Being murdered because she wanted girls in
Her country to be able to go to school.  While
Here in our country boys & girls are frightened.

It is said that a child shall lead them--there
Are kids now finding ways to earn
Money to do more research for cancer, or to
Help the homeless, or send books so others learn.

The survivors of the Parkland, FL mass school
Shooting are starting a movement,
Because they are tired of being in the
Crosshairs, and the loss of innocents.

Congress needs to get off their butts and
Come up with a plan TOGETHER that
Bans assault weapons being sold in stores or
Elsewhere, no bump stocks either--a bill only about that.

Don't hang it up with some bill for certain
Constituents, that can be debated later.  And
If campaign contributors and lobbyists used their
Head and hearts, there would be no one to offend.

I would like to see someone from our
Government explain to the survivors of
School and other mass shootings, face to
Face without condescension or patronizing--
Why such legislation can't be put in place.

No selling of arms to underage persons.
No selling of arms to anyone with mental problems.
No selling of arms to those with a criminal history.
No selling of assault weapons to anyone not in Military or Law Enforcement.

Those who fight for the 2nd amendment will
Still have those rights as long as they don't fall
Into any of those categories.
