There are no words to say
That can ease the pain,
Of those who lost loved ones--
Or those who were maimed.
That Sunday night in Las Vegas, people
Enjoying a concert by Jason Aldean--
When a man mad at the world, caused
A horrible mass shooting again.
No one knows the true reason,
Just bits here and there--
He had massive debts he couldn't pay,
He wanted to hit back--at who he didn't care.
Or maybe he just wanted to end
It all--go out in a blaze of glory.
Taking innocent souls with him.
We may never know the true story.
What we do know is the carnage
He left behind. The dead,
The wounded, the terrorized.
Everyday heroes helping people who bled.
People risking their lives to help total
Strangers--that's what humans do.
First Responders entering into danger
To treat the injured and to rescue.
They say this was the worst mass
Shooting in U.S. history--that may be,
But any mass shooting anywhere--
Is one mass shooting too many.
We are a nation that is horrified
And mourning. This isn't about having
The right to bear arms--it's more
About the right to keep living.
