No matter how you feel,
History can't be undone.
It wasn't always nice--it was
Downright painful for some.
We can't rewrite history--
It is what it is. One
Person's pride for their part,
Doesn't take away wrongs done.
It's all woven into the
Fabric of our nation, all
The good and the bad. Even
Divided, they answered the call.
Atrocities were committed--
We'd like to forget. Those
Who committed them, if not
Punished here--then their souls.
It sounds trite, but we
Need to go forward, to make
Things better for all, and
Add new chapters for everyone's sake.
