WE CAN'T REALLY UNDERSTAND

No on can really say that
They understand how a person
With Dementia/Alzheimer's feels.
They fight a battle that can't be won.

Dr's. can tell you the scientific
And physical stages they'll go through--
But can't begin to tell us what
The person's emotions will do.

People close to the person with
Dementia/Alzheimer's can see
The struggles they go through--but
All they can do is watch helplessly.

Each person is affected differently.
Sometimes their personality changes,
They can become aggressive, or be
Timid and afraid, or silent in stages.

All we really understand is our
Emotional reaction to what we
See them go through trying
Not to lose who they used to be.

We just need to continue to
Love them and take care
Of them--and continue to
Pray that a cure is near.
