SNOW PLAY WHEN I WAS YOUNG

Every winter when I was young,
We'd listen to the weather reports
To see if school was closed.  If so,
We'd have fun with our neighbors.

We'd make snow angels, build
Snowmen--or if we were artistic,
A snow Santa.  We'd build snow
Forts, our planning was strategic.

We'd have hilarious snowball
Fights, boys against girls--
Not caring who won battles, just
Having fun together in our snowy world.

Some would make snow ice cream--
That was always a treat.  Taking
Turns being pulled on a sled, we
Had no nearby hills for sliding.

Breaking off icicles and seeing
Whose was longer.  Making tracks
In the snow, because we could--making
Others squeal putting snow down their backs.

Then, when we were tired, cold,
And wet, our mom's would call
Us in to dry out and get warm.  When I
Was young and there was deep snow fall.
