Phony

Phony, shallow people just
Aren't my cup of tea.
Instead of being themselves, they turn into
What the world thinks they should be.

They don't seem to have real, true friends--
Because no one trusts them.
They may have fortune and they may
Have fame--but no real happiness in the end.

They may be a co-worker that kisses
Up to the boss--saying their work is done
When it's really not--and if you didn't finish it,
Other departments needing reports are under the gun.

What's really sad is you barely get
Paid enough for your main job--
Let alone for two.  Phony people just
Want to be sure they look good no matter what.

All anyone can do is to do your
Best to remain honest and true
To yourself and not let the world or
People in charge change you.
