Will you remember me as your
Sweet baby girl with curly hair?
Or your naughty daughter who got lipstick
On the new carpet you picked with care?
How about the pain in the butt little
Sister that memorized her story books,
And you thought I could read--
And how astonished you looked?
How about the quiet, shy girl
Who didn't say much--just
Please and Thank You or not at all,
If you hadn't gained my trust?
Or maybe you'll remember me
As the young woman who
Worked hard and spoke sarcasm
Fluently around those she knew.
Possibly you'll remember me
As quiet and weak--
Because I took crap from others
And kept quiet and didn't speak.
Or maybe you'll think of me
As a loyal, trusted friend.
Who if you needed an ear or
Shoulder, was always on hand.
You may remember me as the girl
With health issues who was out
Sick a lot. So her bosses reprimanded
Her--they were full of doubt.
Will you remember me as a childhood
Friend or relative you've known
Forever, and your costume for a
Party was a skirt I'd sewn?
Or will you remember me
As the person who helped take
Care of her Grandma, Father, and now
Her Mother and fought their battles to keep them safe?
I hope you'll remember me
As a Child of God-not perfect,
But trying to do as He teaches us
And had a good effect.
I hope you'll smile or laugh
Whenever you remember me--
I always have said to people:
I'm the comic relief.
