Every 4th of July we
Celebrate our nation's birthday.
Which is defended by our military--
Keeping enemies at bay.
It's a wonderful thing to celebrate,
With cookouts, and reunions--but we must not
Forget our veterans with PTSD
Who hear the fireworks we've bought.
It makes the celebration sound
Like a battlefield, and the flashbacks
And anxiety return like they're on duty--
Not home safe and sound instead of Iraq.
Part of respecting out military
Is helping them to adapt to life at home.
And treating their PTSD, not just from this war--
But all wars-don't let them suffer alone.
Thank them ALL for their service,
Help them to get the help they need.
If it weren't for their valor,
Our country would not be free.
