Evening In The Country

When the day is over,
And the sun is hanging low--
Darkness creeps in slowly,
And the stars begin to glow.

Whippoorwills calling,
A coyote may start to howl.
Cattle settling for the night--
So do the barnyard fowl.

Light shines through the windows
Of the big farmhouse--
Suppers over, dishes cleared away,
Cats watching for a mouse.

The dogs curl up by the fire,
The kids do homework and final chores.
Family time every evening--
Fun times together in or outdoors.

Finally, it's time for bed--
Things ready to go for early morning.
Sleep under homemade quilts, tired
But happy, things are never boring.
