People are always ready
To assign someone the blame.
They won't take responsibility,
So they find someone to name.
When things go well,
Everyone wants to take credit.
But if something goes wrong,
Somebody else did it.
It's not only in politics,
It happens in business too.
Companies crumble, reputations destroyed,
Because higher ups won't reveal what they do.
They seem so shocked when they're
Fined and sent to jail.
They thought they were so smart--
They could never fail.
If you tell someone what
Really happens, it all
Comes down on you.
Reprisals or being blackballed.
It makes you miss the days
When someone's word was their bond.
And an honest handshake was
A contract you could depend upon.
