Will your children care for you
When you're old and frail?
Or will they put you in a home
And keep in touch by phone and mail?
Will they be too busy to checkup
On the status and quality of your care?
Will they forget that when they were sick,
You were always there?
If your parent is in a home,
Visit as often as you can.
Always say you love them,
And gently hold their hand.
If you are their caregiver,
Remember to be patient, loving and kind.
Doing that for them will enrich
Your heart and soul you'll find.
Even when they no longer know you--
You will still know them, and remember
All the love you've always shared--
Memories that are strong, and not embers.
God will guide you as you care for them,
And help you share the load.
Until the time comes and He calls them
To Heaven, where they'll never be old.
