The Mentally Wounded

Mentally ill people
Are human beings too.
Do you ever think "but for the
Grace of God" that could be you?

Some have chemical imbalances
That may run in their family.
Some have been to war and
Have problems re-adjusting to society.

If they get the help they're
Promised, they can lead productive lives.
If they don't, and feel they're cornered--
They may not survive.

It takes a toll on everyone,
But mostly the one afflicted.
Think of the good they could do
If encouraged and uplifted.

The sad thing is, some refuse help--
They give up way too soon.
They become thieves or murderers,
And their lives have added doom.

If they're a family member,
Don't judge, taunt, or be ashamed.
Because if you do--you can
Also become maimed.
