Loving Someone

Loving someone is more than "chemistry",
Or sexual attraction---they're certainly
Part of it.  But other things are important too,
It doesn't matter if they're handsome or a great beauty.

That's only the outside, what's inside
Is important too.  You need compatible
Personalities, like some of the same things--
And be able to tell when they're sincere or shooting bull.

Take time to get to know each other,
Learn each others insecurities and flaws.
Communicate and be honest with each other,
No double lives or broken laws.

Always be able to know that person
Will have your back, and do the same for them.
Know that in good times and bad,
Someone's there to hold you're hand.

Don't put each other on pedestals--
You must be realistic, nobody is perfect.
Make sure you feel safe with them,
And have no fear of abuse--know they will protect.

Discuss with each other your dreams,
Goals, and beliefs.  Always be sure of
Where you stand with each other so you
Both know if you're in love.

Don't marry for money or prestige,
And definitely not as a business merger.
You'll feel lonely even when together,
And the relationship gets no nurture.

Neither should be too proud
To admit when they are wrong.
Love DOES mean saying you're sorry--
But the theme is still a beautiful song.
