I know Americans love their
Sports, and I'm not knocking that.
But who decided what sports teams do
Is more important than being in combat?
Players get million dollar contracts,
Our troops have holdups in their pay.
Sports players have whatever they want,
Soldiers are lucky to see another day.
Team managers throw huge, fancy banquets
With food as far as the eye can see.
Some military families have to
Supplement from food pantries.
The VA is a major mess to deal with--
Trying to get appointments and care for our vets.
You would think we would take better care
And learned from Viet Nams' regrets.
When a sports player--even though professional,
Has so much excess--
And troops that serve our country can't get food
Or care, there's something wrong with this.
An MVP in sports gets parades and
Adulation or merchandise royalties.
But a hero that fought in battle is only
Remembered by family and military buddies.
Our forefathers would be ashamed
Of how we treat our troops.
They died or were maimed in battle--and to get
Food and care must jump through hoops.
