In An Instant

Like a flash of lightning,
Or the blink of an eye--
Your life gets rearranged,
And you're not sure why.

The economy is in the toilet,
It seems the government is run by fools--
They make cuts in education, then wonder why kids
Don't get good educations when they're in school.

What they don't seem to realize,
Is that everything they have could disappear.
When constituents want to talk to them--
Unless it makes big news, they turn a deaf ear.

Just as they could lose their wealth and power,
They could lose someone they love,
Or become ill themselves--not to wish ill on anyone,
But maybe they'd understand what we're complaining of.

It can happen in an instant--
No warning at all.
And their private little empires
Will crumble and fall.
