Caregivers

It's not an easy task
To care for an ill parent.
Their moods and needs change
Day to day--always a variant.

It takes a lot of patience,
And tender loving care--
Sometimes they'll laugh and visit,
Others--just sit and stare.

They may think that it's
Your fault this happened,
And won't listen to what you say.
Your bright sunny attitude can easily be dampened.

You're only trying to help,
They cared for you as a child--
They can be stubborn and demanding,
Or sometimes meek and mild.

Music sometimes soothes them,
Especially gospel hymns.
All you can do is care for them,
And love them to the end.
