Three young children,
All in the same family--
Each a different generation
How different are their memories.
One child grew up
During World War II--
Days of rationing and buying war bonds,
Tests for blackouts--no lights shining through.
Nylons were scarce,
They were used for parachutes.
People everywhere were involved
In sacrificing things for our troops.
One child grew up
During the war in Viet Nam--
Draft cards burning--protests,
Seeing our vets being cursed and spit on.
Signs saying:
"Make love not war"--
Hippies and drugs
Caused an uproar.
One child grew up
During the Gulf War and Desert Storm--
Mom's and Dad's deployed--families
Praying they return unharmed.
Our troops this time are welcomed--
And honored when they come home.
Celebrity tributes, special funds to help,
Our vets are ALL heroes--Let it be known.
All three children saw
The same things basically.
Just from different time periods--but they
Know if anyone tries to harm us--it's THEIR folly.
