Horses

There are many different breeds--
All beautiful, the Palomino is my favorite.
I've seen them in parades and the
Clydesdales are always a hit.

I like them from a distance,
I've never gotten close--
Not even to give them some apple,
Or pet them on the nose.

I've seen them in movies and TV shows--
My Friend Flicka, Fury,The Lone Ranger
Those horses worked harder than the actors did.
Also Roy Rogers,
And you can't forget Mr Ed.

Of course there's National Velvet,
And The Horse Whisperer.
If you read the book,
You'll cry for sure.

Wild mustangs running free
Through hills and canyons--
Appaloosa, Pinto, little colts and fillies
Mares and magnificent stallions.

My late sister loved horses,
And could draw them beautifully.
There used to be a pasture across from us--
She'd feed them her lunch and be late to school continually.

Lippizaner Stallions
Are international stars, and horse
Races are big events--rodeos
And barrel racing, even an Olympic course.

Their beauty and intelligence
Cannot be denied--
Whether wild or tame,
They're part of our country's pride.
